Via San Antonio

San Antonio Via Bus

Via San Antonio is the San Antonio public bus service. Buses serve all over the city so if you do not want to drive to tourist attractions, you can take the bus.

We have a program called "park and ride". Whenever there is a big Spurs game or in February during the rodeo, not to mention in April during Fiesta, roads and parking lots are extremely crowded making it very unpleasant to drive. San Antonio bus service has several places around the city where you can park your car and get on a Via bus, pay a set fee and they take you to the event and bring you back to where you parked.

It is a great service and traffic headaches are no longer yours. The bus is very popular and is used whenever something really big is happening in the city. So if you happen to be visiting the city then, just drive your car over to one of the parking lots, pay the fee which is usually $5 and leave the driving to Via!

Now the regular bus fee is not $5. The regular bus fee one way with one transfer is $1.If you want to call them, their number is (210)362-2020 or if you need to call toll free, dial 1-866-362-2020. On holidays and weekends, Via San Antonio bus schedules change slightly so be sure that you check with them.

They will take you downtown if you are intimidated by driving down there. I sure am. They go to the malls and tourist attractions so you can ride them all over town. The only problem with them is that on some routes, they show up once an hour so you might have a long wait.

I will say that I ride the bus home from work most days of the week and they are usually clean with friendly drivers. Some routes require that you transfer buses so you need to ask for a transfer slip when you get on the first bus, which costs 15 cents extra as of September 2010. If you hate dealing with traffic and you are looking for a cheap way and easy way to see San Antonio, the bus is for you. With no parking worries or hassles, it is THE WAY to see our great city!
