San Antonio Spurs Logo
The San Antonio Spurs logo, in the photo above, was visible on the floor of the basketball court as we entered the AT&T Center on Wednesday night, January 14, 2009 for the Spurs game of the season against the LA Lakers! The Spurs and Lakers are shown in the photo above at the beginning of the game. Excitement was definitely in the air!
Isn't the San Antonio Spurs Logo cool? We take our basketball seriously here in San Antonio!
I am a huge Spurs fan but we had never before gone to a live game so I was excited about since the day my son, Matthew, came home from a music lesson and said his band, Beyond Thursday, would be playing at the Spurs vs. Lakers game in January 2009!
We have been to other events at the AT&T Center and parking varies for each event. We have paid $5, $7, $8, $10, but for the Spurs game, parking was $15! Just so you know and are not surprised!
I could hardly contain myself as the Spurs and the Lakers came out in sweat suits, shown in the photo above, and started warming up right before the game. It was thrilling to see our Spurs live and in person, even though we were not all that close.
We paid $40 for our tickets up on the second floor. The way that the AT&T Center is designed, we could see the court and the San Antonio Spurs logo just fine. We were a little high up but the seats were okay. The design is quite amazing.
After the national anthem was sung, the game started. Tim Duncan is so tall. Tony Parker was just as quick and handy with the ball in person as on TV. Coach Popovich, in a gray suit, was over in his corner and called a lot of time-out meetings on the court with three other men in suits. It was so cool to see. In the photo below, he can be seen on the top left in the gray suit with the group of men.
The place was totally packed, a sell-out. Over 18,000 fans were there. Some were Lakers fans because they would scream each time Kobe Bryant made a basket and he made plenty. It is like the guy never misses! He is incredible, but he is not a Spur!
The game was cool to see and I was having a great time, but all of a sudden, the place erupted in cheers and applause, myself included. Guess why. Player # 20, Manu Ginobili, my favorite Spur, came out onto the floor! There he is in the photo below.
Immediately, he took charge of the ball as he stole it away from a Laker. His lightning speed took him down to the Spurs basket as he scored the first of many points that night. He shot several three pointers. If you don't know, Manu is famous for those. Each time he took the ball, we cheered and every time he scored, we went wild!
The score was close all night long. The San Antonio Spurs Logo was proudly displayed above the scoreboard so we saw it each time we looked up at the score. Back and forth, we led and then the Lakers led.
I want to say that all of the Spurs did an excellent job as always and the crowd was wild all night. It got louder and louder towards the end of the game.
Somewhere at the beginning of the fourth quarter during a time out, the crowd went absolutely crazy when David Robinson, who attends all of the home games, was shown on the jumbo-tron! If you don't know, he was The Spur, #50! What a fabulous player. He retired about five years ago. In the photo above, retired jerseys hang over every home game. See David Robinson's, right in the middle. He is the best, now and always! Go Spurs Go!
The game continued to be as close as possible. With 8 seconds left on the clock, we made our final basket and then just held on to the ball. Final score was 112-111, Spurs! Whoo-hoo! The San Antonio Spurs logo almost smiled!
If basketball is not your thing, there are many other sports for you to watch in San Antonio as well.
